How to use Deal Notes

Keep important details, questions, and follow-ups organized throughout a deal

Deal Notes gives buyers and sellers a private place to record important information about individual deals.

You can use notes to track diligence questions, meeting takeaways, follow-up tasks, concerns, or anything else you want to remember as a deal progresses. Your notes are private from the other side of the deal.

1. Open Deal Notes

Open a deal and find Notes in the details panel. You can access the details panel from either the deal page or its inbox conversation.

Buyers will see notes associated with the startup, while sellers will see notes associated with the buyer.

Deal Notes is available from the beginning of a conversation, so you don’t need to wait until access is approved or the deal reaches a particular stage.

2. Add a note

To create a note:

  1. Open Notes from the details panel.
  2. Select the + button.
  3. Enter your note.
  4. Select Save.

Each note can contain up to 1,000 characters.

Add a note from the Deal Notes sidebar

Once saved, the note will appear in the sidebar for that deal.

3. Review your notes

Notes are displayed with the most recent first and grouped by date, including:

  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • Last 7 days
  • Earlier months

Longer notes are shortened in the sidebar. Select See more to read the full note and See less to collapse it again.

4. Edit a note

To update an existing note:

  1. Open the note’s three-dot menu.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Make your changes.
  4. Select Save.

The updated note will appear in the same deal sidebar.

5. Delete a note

To remove a note:

  1. Open the note’s three-dot menu.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Review the confirmation message.
  4. Select Delete Note.

Confirm deleting a Deal Note

Deleted notes can’t be recovered.

Who can see your Deal Notes?

Your notes are private from the other side of the deal. Buyers can’t see notes created on the seller side, and sellers can’t see notes created on the buyer side.

Deal Notes is available to all buyers and sellers on every plan.
